Index Structure

Three Types of Supporting References

The index distinguishes direct biblical references, historical-source notes, and named noncanonical texts.

Scripture

Biblical References

Explicit chapter citations are gathered in one place, with the King James Version identified as the manuscript’s default biblical translation unless otherwise noted.

History

Historical Source Directions

Chapters Three and Four direct readers to the historical appendices and consulted works for Constantine, Nicaea, Arius, Athanasius, Theodosius, and canon formation.

Beyond the Shelf

Noncanonical Texts

Chapter Eleven identifies the Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Truth, Gospel of Philip, and the Nag Hammadi Library.
